The Overcoming Depression and Loss Workbook (ODL) is an interactive workbook designed to be used by individuals participating in group cognitive therapy. Structured around an eight-week course of therapy the workbook leads users through simple exercises designed to help them examine their thought patterns and behaviors and to make small positive changes at each stage. Participants in the therapy group are encouraged to use the Beck Depression Inventory in concert with the workbook to check their progress. Written in a practical friendly style, the workbook addresses issues faced by real people in their day-to-day lives and helps them develop habits of thinking and acting to manage their lives better.
The workbook contains simple exercises to be completed each week by the participants which help them examine their thinking and behavior and work alongside other group members to change. The realistic, non-judgmental, writing style encourages users to participate in their own therapy with humor and compassion and leaves the reader feeling capable of changing.
