The Neuropsychology Behavior and Affect Profile-Dementia (NBAP-D) was designed to address the need for a measure of neurocognitive and emotional changes that co-occur with dementia. The NBAP-D assesses symptoms of a neurodegenerative process, such as dementia, by measuring changes in emotional levels and in behavior. The test was designed to augment traditional neuropsychological tests by adding information about non-cognitive functions commonly affected by neurological disorders. Since many neurologically disordered patients are unable to reliably report on their own condition (due to cognitive impairment), the NBAP-D was designed to address this issue by creating two sources of information, patient respondents and significant-other respondents.

From the Manual
"Rationale: Neuropsychological tests generally measure neurocognitive functions, such as attention, memory, or visuospatial ability. Neuropsychological test batteries sometimes ignore measurements of emotional and behavioral functioning, in spite of empirical evidence for the importance of neural substrates in emotional processing. Having tests that provide information on emotional aspects of a person is critical to a comprehensive neuropsychological examination."
