Emergency Medicine Trainee Burnout is Associated with Lower Patients' Satisfaction with their Emergency Department Care

The MBI Human Services Survey measured burnout in emergency medicine trainees. Key findings: (a) trainee burnout was significantly associated with lower trainee-specific patient satisfaction; and (b) no significant burnout differences based on sex or postgraduate year.

This review discusses what researchers currently know about physician burnout and where research is still needed. The MBI is noted as “the most widely accepted standard of burnout assessment” and “despite ongoing efforts to refine burnout instruments, the MBI remains the current ‘gold standard’ for burnout assessment”.

The STAI for Adults was used to measure anxiety in female participants following four different dietary patterns at 26-28 weeks of gestation and at three months postpartum. Key findings: diets high in fruits, vegetables, and fish during the postpartum period were associated with less anxiety.
